At the start of his state visit to Australia, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog commemorated the Hanukkah attack of December 14th on Bondi Beach in Sydney. “On behalf of the State of Israel, I pay tribute to all 15 victims who were murdered in the deadliest terrorist attack in Australian history,” he wrote on Twitter on Monday.
He also praised the “wonderful Australians who stood shoulder to shoulder with Australian Jews after the attack.” Protests against Herzog’s arrival and accusations of “genocide” in the Gaza Strip took place in several Australian cities.
